Blue Heart

For most of the 20th century, Albania was isolated by its political leaders, and as a result its ecosystems are still not well documented. Albania is home to the Vjosa, one of Europe’s last wild rivers, and environmental activists are fighting to save it, and many other rivers, from an array of proposed hydropower projects throughout the country. Photos from this project were published at Men’s Journal, Outside, Smithsonian, and Undark.
